There’s Something In My Eye

In the Spring semester of the third-year core animation class at SVA, we are tasked with creating a collaborative film with our classmates. Each student pitches an idea, then everyone votes on their favorite, and the winning idea gets developed and produced—with the creator becoming the Director. Immediately after the film concept and Director are chosen, a vote takes place for the Production Coordinator. On “There’s Something In My Eye,” directed by Eni Xu, I was elected as the Production Coordinator.

“There’s Something in My Eye” is a 2-minute animated short film about a girl who becomes overwhelmed with suppressed grief as she mourns a memory of the past, encountering a whimsical little critter who guides her towards learning how to release.

It was my sole responsibility to organize the entire production of the film for our team of 21 total students. We had 15 weeks to produce a 2-minute film. During production, I also had the opportunity of participating in a mentorship circle with former Nickelodeon Producer Kelly-Ann Krawchuck, which allowed me to bring professional production practices to “There’s Something In My Eye.”

My responsibilities as Production Coordinator included managing the production schedule, slugging the animatic, taking revision notes, creating organizational documents, facilitating weekly progress check-ins/final submissions, creating technical tutorial guides, managing files, as well as animating two shots of the film. Through maintaining consistent and clear communication with our team, we were able to bring the film to full completion by the final delivery date.

“There’s Something In My Eye” is currently completing its festival run, and will be released publicly once it concludes. Below are various production materials and stills from the project.
